Hub City Opens to Steady Traffic, Excited Community

Hub City logoAfter several years of hard work and planning, the city of Spartanburg has a downtown grocery store … and South Carolina has its first food cooperative. Hub City Co-op opened its doors on Friday, April 15 to steady traffic and an excited community.

Located on Liberty Street at the site of a converted garage, Hub City sports a modern look & feel. The store’s focus is on local sources of healthy food along with organics.

Garland_McQueen2“It’s a good hectic,” said store manager Garland McQueen of the co-op’s first day in a news story written by Trevor Anderson on Go Upstate.com. “We had all of the usual bugs of a grocery store opening, but nothing major. The crowds have been steady. It has been very pleasant … We’re very excited.”

In addition to the “soft opening” to introduce the co-op to the community and work out the bugs McQueen talked about, Hub City plans a grand opening celebration Friday, April 29 at 9:00 am.

You can read more about Hub City’s opening on Go Upstate.com, and see television coverage just prior to opening day from WYFF-TV.
